As part of continuing studies to clarify the botanical origins of the crude drug "Wa-no-tan-chiku-yo (和淡竹葉)" and "Kuma-zasa (クマザサ)" on the Japanese markets, the leaves of the genera Bambusa and Dendrocalamus are investigated by comparative anatomical method. From the results of the anatomical studies, it is clarified that the leaves of these genera have not been used as "Wa-no-tan-chiku-yo" and "Kuma-zasa". Each species of the leaves of these genera can be classified by the criteria as shown in TABLE I.
