The Chinese crude drug "Jinyinhua" (金銀花), which is derived from the flower buds and young flowers of Lonicera spp. of the Caprifoliaceae family, is noted for its heat-clearing and detoxifying effect and has been used for the treatment of inflammation of the upper respiratory tract, sores, boils, carbuncles and ulcers, etc. The botanical origins of "Jinyinhua" on the Chinese and Hong Kong markets today seem to be rather complicated. In this paper, to identify the botanical origins of contemporary "Jinyinhua," seven representative commercial "Jinyinhua" samples were chosen and their external and internal structures were studied morphologically and histologically. The result showed that their origins were L. japonica THUNB., L. macranthoides HAND.-MAZZ., L. hypoglauca MIQ. subsp. nudiflora HSU et H.J. WANG, L. confusa DC., L. similis HEMSL., L. bournei HEMSL. and L. macrantha (D. DON) SPRENG. var. heterotricha Hsu et H.J. WANG.
