Pharmacognostical Studies on the Crude Drugs of Orchidaceae from Taiwan-1-On"I-tiam-hong(一点〔コウ〕)"-1-

"I-tiam-hong" is a folk medicine in Taiwan, used as remedies for visceral crisis, lung disease, hypertension, etc. "I-tiam-hong" was believed to have been derived from the entire plant of Cypripedium formosanum HAY. of Orchidaceae by Sasaki, Kow, and Hsu. But, many varieties of drugs on the Taiwan market which take this name are different from this plant. To determine the botanical origins of the commercial drug, "I-tiam-hong," on the Taiwan market, histological studies were made. The results show that the botanical origins of "I-tiam-hong" on the Taiwan market are a mixture of Nervilia purpurea (HAY.) Schl. and N. aragoana Gaud., sometimes N. pur- purea only, but rarely mixed with other Nervilia species of Orchidaceae. The morphological characteristics of "I-tiam-hong" are shown in Table I.
