To clarify the botanical origins of "Diding (地丁)" of Viola spp., comparative anatomical studies on Viola spp. from Japan have been carried out. Japanese Viola spp. could be classified into four types, A, B, C and D by the investigation of the internal structures of the roots. Each species of A_1 tpye having stems was reported in the previous paper. In this paper, we report on A_2 type having no stems in detail. A_2 type contains Sect. Plagiostigma (3 species), Sect. Vaginatae (5 species) and exceptionally one species (V.tashiroi MAKINO) belonged to Sect. Patellares of a different type (D type). Each species of A_2 type had characteristic internal structures and could be distinguished anatomically from one another. Sect. Plagiostigma and Sect. Vaginatae had their common features respectively. Each species of A_2 type could be classified by histo-taxonomical analysis, and the classification agreed fairy well with that of existing systematic botany.
