Pharmacognostical Studies on the Crude Drugs of Orchidaceae from Taiwan-6-On "Kim-soam-lian"(金線連)-1-

"Kim-soan-lian" (金線連), the most precious folk remedy in Taiwan, has been used for lung disease, pleurodynia, abdomen-pain, fever, hypertension and snake-bite. It is found that there are many kinds of "Kim-soan-lian" on the Taiwan market. To clarify their origins, histological studies were made. From the characteristics of the external and internal structures of the materials, it was found that "Kim-soan-lian" is derived from the entire plant or aerial part of the following species: (1) Anoectochilus formosanus, (2) the mixture of A. koshunensis and A. formosanus, (3) Zebrina pendula, (4) Goodyera matsumurana, (5) G. daibuzanensis, (6) the mixture of (4) and (5). The study on Goodyera plants will be reported in the next paper. The morphological characteristics of "Kim-soan-lian", Anoectochilus and Zebrina plants from Taiwan are shown in Table I.
