As part of continuing studies to clarify the botanical origins of the crude drug "Juk-yeup" on the Korean markets, the leaves of the genus Pleioblastus are investigated by comparative anatomical method. From the results of the anatomical studies, it is determined that the leaves of P. simonii (CARR.) NAKAI are rarely observed in the specimens of the crude drug "Juk-yeup." The leaves of each species can be identified by the elements: the length and shape of micro hairs, the distributions of prickle hairs and micro hairs, the number of fibers at both margins and the thickness of the mesophyll, etc. as shown in TABLES I and II. However, the leaves of P. gramineus NAKAI and P. hindsii NAKAI show similar anatomical characters, therefore, those cannot be classified by their anatomical characters.
