In Japanese folk medicine, the underground part of Taraxacum plant is used for stomach trouble and is called "Hokoei (蒲公英)." In the previous paper it was reported that the main original plant of "Hokoei" produced in Shikoku district (四国地方) is T. japonicum KOIDZUMI. In this paper, in order to identify the botanical origin of "Hokoei" from Nagano (長野) and Gunma (群馬) prefectures, a comparative anatomical study of the underground parts of 5 Taraxacum species was carried out: The botanical origin of the crude drug produced in Nagano pref. was shown to be T. hondoense NAKAI ex. H. KOIDZUMI and T. officinale WEBER, and that of the crude drug produced in Gunma pref. to be T. hondoense.
