As part of continuing studies to clarify the botanical origins of the crude drug "Wa-no-tan-chiku-yo (和淡竹葉)" and folk medicine "Kuma-zasa (クマザサ)" on the Japanese markets, and the crude drug "Juk-yeup" on the Korean markets, the leaves of the genera Semiarundinaria, Sinobambusa, Shibataea, Tetragonocalamus and Chimonobatnbusa are investigated by comparative anatomical method. From the results, the leaves of these genera are not observed in the specimens of "Wa-no-tan-chiku-yo," "Kuma-zasa" and "Juk-yeup." The leaves of these genera can be classified by the elements: the shapes of the midrib and both margins, the number of small vascular bundles in the midrib and the disposition of silica cells, etc. The anatomical characters of the leaves of each species are as shown in Table I.
