As part of continuing studies to clarify the botanical origins of the crude drug "Juk-yeup" on the Korean markets, the leaves of the genera Sasamorpha and Pseudosasa are investigated by comparative anatomical method. From the results of the anatomical studies, it is determined that the botanical origins of "Juk-yeup" are mainly from the leaves of Sasamorpha borealis (HACKEL) NAKAI ("Juk-yeup"-C) and Pseudosasa japonica (SIEB. et ZUCC.) MAKINO ("Juk-yeup"-D). As Makino's classification,in the leaves of the genera Pseudosasa and Sasamorpha reveal same anatomical characteristics. The leaf of each species of these genera can be classified by the elements, the diameter of median vascular bundle, the number of small vascular bundles in the midrib, the number of fibers on both margins and the distribution of prickle hairs on the lower surface, etc. as presented in TABLE 1. However, the leaves of P. hamadae HATUSIMA are different from the internal and surface structures of the leaves of the genera Pseudosasa and Sasamorpha but similar to those of the leaves of the genus Sasaella.
