Photo-Ionization of Aluminum Atoms by Vacuum Ultra Violet Light

Photo-ionization rate of AN atoms by vacuum ultra-violet light has been measured quantitatively for the first time. The ionization rate increased with increasing photon intensity, and the maximum value of 14 ppb was obtained. Simple theoretical analyses of the measured dependences of the ionization rate on the Al flux density and photon intensity revealed that the absorption cross section for ionization was independent of the Al flux density and the photon intensity, and the one-photon ionization process was dominant.
