Inhomogeneous Distribution of the Magnetic Moment in an Antiferromagnetic Metal:NiS_<1.4>Se_<0.6>

From an analysis of the "Ni NMR spectium of a metallic compound NiS...Se... observed in the antiferromagnetic state, the magnetic moment distributionof the Ni atoms has been studied. Although the Ni atoms having one or less Satoms in its nearest neighbor are essentially non magnetic, it is indicated that themagnetic moment has an inhomoseneous distribution depending on the con=figurations of the chalcogen atoms in the nearest neighbors. The average momentfor all Ni atoms is estimated to be 0.7 p., which is in good agreement with 0.67t. obtained from neutron diffraction experiment.
