NMR Studies of ^<17>O in the Normal State of YBa_2Cu_3O_<6+x>

The temperature dependence of both the Knight shift (A) tensor and the nuclearspin-lattice relaxation rate (1 / T,) in the normal state have been studied, by using themagnetically oriented powered samples of YBa.Cu.O,.. with x=0.96, 0.8 and 0.6.From the K - / plot for the p[aner oxygen sites (0(2, 3)), we have determined the principal values of the hyperfine field tensor and found that those hardly depend on thehole concentration. The remarkable feature has emerged from the 7-dependence ofthe I / (T.T) at the O(2, 3) sites; i.e. it u-eveals almost the same IA-dependence of thespin parts of the Knight shift. This observation suggests that the energy width of thespin excitations around q -0 is 7'-independent in the normal state. The Knight shifttensor at the apica[ oxygen sites has also been measured and is discussed
