Magnetic Susceptibilities of AV_2O_5(A=Li and Cs) with Square Pyramidal V (IV) O_5

Stoichiometric powder samples of 'y-LiVzO5 and CSV2O5 were synthesized and the magneticstusceptibilities were measured in the ternperature range from 5 K to 700 K. The magnetic suscep-tibilities of 'y-LiVz 05 and CSV2 05 show good fits to the equations for a S :: l /2 one-dimensionalHeisenberg antiferromagnetic linear chain model and a S : 172 dimer rnodel, respectively, al-though the obtained .(values are rather small (1.8 for both conapounds). The ground state of'y-LiVz05 is neither a spin singlet state nor a magnetically ordered state, while CSV2O5 is ina spin singlet state below 30 K. The results are discussed in comparison with the magneticproperties of a'-NaVzO5 and CaVzO5.
