Raman,Infrared and Optical Spectra of the Spin-Peierls Compound NaV_2O_5

• We have measvrred polarized spectra of Ratnan scattering, infrared and optical transunission ofNaVxOs single crystals above the temperattrre of the spin-Peierls transition ISP = 35 K. Soutue ofthe far-infrared (FIR) phonon lines are strongly asytaaraaetric, dtre to the spin-phonon interaction.In addition to the phonon lines, a broad band XV2LS observed in the c(aa)c Raman spectrurrr andin the E a FIR transmission spectrtnuaa. A possible origin of tlaese bands is disctrssed. Tlaeabsorption band at 10000 CITI ' (1.25 eV) is attribtrted to vanaditrna d-d electronic transitionswhile the absorption edge above 3 eV is strpposed to correspond to the onset of charge-transfertransitions.
