Magnetic and Structural Transitions in (Li_xZn<1-x>V_2O_4 with the Spinel Structure

The rnagnetic and strtrcttnral properties of (Li.Zn) .)V204 at low teraaperatures have beensttzdied. The ground state of metallic LiV3O.j is not any rnagnetically ordered one althoughthe rrtagnetic susceptibility shows the Curie-Weiss behavior above 100 K and a broad maximumaround 20 K. With substitttting Zn for Li the spin-glass stttte appears as the ground statein 0.1< x< 0.9. On the other hand the insulating ZIlV2O4 exhibits the cubic to tetragonaltransition at 50 K followed by the antiferronuagnetic order below 40 K. Z11V2 04 shows a differeraceof nnagnetic sttsceptibility between zero-field ?'tnd field cooled process below 95 K, wluich suggeststhe development of strong short-range correlation anaong spins. These transitions are sharplysuppressed by the svrbstitution of Li, The obtained restt[ts indicate that (Li.Zn) .)V204 xviththe cubic spinel strtrcttrre is a geonaetrically fr'trstrated magnetic system.
