The local magnetic fields at an interstitial 7t" in single crystals Co and Gdhave been measured by the /ZSR method in the temperature range from 4.2 K to693 K, and from 4.2 K to 250 K, respectively. An anomalous variation is ob-served in the temperature range where the change of the direction of easy magneti-zation occurs, whose gross feature is explained by the change of the magneticdipolar field from the moments of surrounding atoms. It is concluded that thep" prefers to stay at an octahedral interstitial site and feels a nearly classicaldipolar field. After the correction was made for dipolar field and Lorentz field, the contact hyperfine fields at 7'=0 are found to be -6.1 k0e for Co and -7.5k0e for Gd, both decreasing with increasing temperature faster than the bulkmagnetization. Comparison is made with jt" hyperfine fields in other ferromagnets,Ni and Fe.
