Interface Magnetism in Fe/Mn Artificial Metallic Superlattice Investigated by ^<55>Mn NMR

A "Mn NMR investigation has been made on the interface magnetism in Fe/Mn ar-tificial metallic superlattice (AMS). The signal associated with the ferromagneticallyordered Mn sites was observed in a wide frequency range. The chemical compositionprofile was extracted from the distribution of "Mn internal fields, and it is suggestedthat the compositional mixing occurs over a wide range (at least 15 A) near the inter-face in Fe/Mn AMS. From this, the interface alloy region was found to be fer-romagnetic even in the Mn dense region, which cannot be expected for FeMn alloys inthe thermal equilibrium. Thus it is concluded that a new-type alloy is created near theinterface in the Fe/Mn AMS by making multilayers.
