M6ssbauer spectra and magnetic susceptibility have been measured for Al-Mnbased quasicrystals containing Fe. The separations of outer pccaks of the M6ssbauerspectra at 4.2 K with external magnetic fields of 3.0 and 4.5 T eorrespond to the onesdue only to the applied field, indicating that the Fe atoms have substantially nolocal magnetic moment. The magnetic susceptibilities for quasicrystalline Al,.Si,(Mn. .Fe.).. with x=O, 0.01 and 0.25 obey the Curie-Weiss law, giving approximate-ly the same effective moment per atom of transition elements, int spite of the substitu-lion of non-magnetic Fe for Mn. The above facts is, in turn, interpreted by either thefact that (l) there are magnetic and non-magnetic Mn sites ;tnd Fe atoms occupypreferentially the latter sites, or that (2) the itinerant electrorns are responsible for thetemperature-dependent suscepti bility.
