Magnetic Properties of Fe-Mg Artificial Superstructure Films

Artificial metallic superlattices were synthesized from an insoluble combination,Fe-Mg, by alternate deposition in ultrahigh vacuum. The shortest artificial periodici-ty confirmed by X-ray diffraction was Fe(4 A)-Mg(4 A). A sample with Femonolayers, [Fe(IA)-Mg(16A)], was prepared successfully. Magnetic propertieswere studied from M6ssbauer and SQUID measurements. Novel magnetic propertieswere observed in extremely thin Fe layers. Mg-diluted Fe alloys prepared by co-deposi-lion were also investigated and have been compared with artificial superstructurefilms.
