Local Spin Polarezation in Au Layers of Co/Au(111)Multilayers by^<57>Fe Mossbauer Probes

To observe position-dependent spin polarization in nonmagnetic layers sandwiched by ferro-magnetic layers, M6ssbauer meastrrements were performed for Co/Au(111) multilayers of whichAu layers were doped depth selectively with "Fe microprobes. The depth-dependent M6ssbauerrelaxation profiles were observed at room temperature, and were attributed to differences inlocal spin polarization in the spacer layers, demonstrating that the local spin polarization isdistinguishable with monolayer resolution. The magnitude of spin polarization decreases fromthe Co/Au interface to the middle of the 20A thick Au layer.
