NMR Investigations on the Spin Fluctuations in Itinerant Antiferromagnets. I. V_3Se_4 and V_5Se_8

The properties of the spin density fluctuations irt the itinerant antiferromagneticcompounds V.:So. and V 5 Se. have been investigated in both the paramagneticand the antifc>rromagnetic states by using the pulsed INMR technique. Thetemperature dependences of the uniform susceptibilities 7,.(T), the staggeredmoments M0(iT) and the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation ;rates 1/7'1 of "V forboth V.Se. ancl V.,Sag are well explained within a ;iramework of the self-corxsistentrenormalizatioca (SCR) theorv of stcin fluctuatiorts for weak itinerant antiferro-magnets. The (Curie-Weiss like behavior of '7..(T) and the temperature independentcontribution to the 1/7'1 observed in V5Seg are cc>ncluded to be due to the effectof the spin fltuctuation components around g=0 which, in addition to thosearound g=Q (Q being antiferromagnetic wave vzector), play an important rolein determining the magnetic properties.
