NMR Study of Bismuth-Substituted Yttrium Iron Garnets

Bismuth-substituted yttrium iron garnets have been studied with NMR measure-ment. The NMR signals of "'Bi nuclei were observed around 40 MHz correspondingto the internal field of 60 k0e. This value is about one order higher than the value ex-pected from dipole field of ferric ions. This suggests the possibility of partial spinpolarization of bismuth ton through the electron transfer from Bi" to Fe". Thismay cause the growth-induced anisotropy cooperating with preferential site orderingof bismuth ion.
