Copper NQR and NMR investingations of Metallic but Nonsuperconducting La_4BaCu_5O_<13+x>

Copper nuclear quadrupole/magnetic resonance (NQR/NMR) has been observedfor the pyramidal copper sites in a metallic but nonsuperconducting copper oxidewith mixed valence, La.BaCu,O.,... The electric quadrupole interaction, as well asthe NMR shifts, was found to be quite similar to that observed for YBa.Cu,0, whilethe nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate was found to be much lower (l / T. = 190 sec 'at 100 K) compared with that in the normal state of YBa.Cu.0. (1 / T. = 2300 sec ' at100 K). These observations indicate that the behaviors of antiferromagnetic copperspin fluctuations of nonsuperconducting and superconducting oxides are verydifferent.INQR, NMR, high-]. superconductivity, La3BaCu.O.,..
