Site Assignment for Cu NQR Lines in YBa_2Cu_3O_<7-δ> Superconductor

A clear evidence is presented on the site assignment for two distinct "Cu NQR linesobserved at around 22 MHz and 3] MHz in YBa,zCu.O. , superconductor (T.= 91 K).Using the highly oriented powder sample under the applied magnetic field in thesuperconducting state where the c-axis being perpendicular to the field, the "Cu NMRspectra have carefully been examined. From analysis of the spectra, the directions ofthe principal axes of the electric field gradient (EFG) tensors at the two "Cu sites havebeen determined. Comparing these experimental results with the calculated EFG tensors at the crystallographically inequivalent two Cu sites [the chain Curl) and theplanar Cu(2) sitesl in YBa.Cu,0., the site associated with the lower and the higherNQR frequencies are uniquely assigned to the Curl) and the Cu(2) sites, respectively.[Cu NQR, Cu NMR, spectrum, YBa.Cu.0. 5, high T., superconductor, electric lJ field gradient, site assignment, preferred orientation, lineshape function. j
