Electronic States around a Columnar Defect in d-Wave Superconductors

Electronic states arotrnd a columnar defect in d-wave superconductors are studied within aquasi-classical approximation. It is shown that the local density of states at zero energy has peaksnear (1, 1, 0) and (1, 1, 0) direction botrndaries of the columnar defect. In contrast to the zeroenergy the local density of states at the gap (peak) energy is lower near these directions. Theseproperties are qualitatively consistent with an experirnent which has been recently performed tostudy the local electronic structure around a coltrnanar defect in BizSr3CaCuzO. using scanningtunneling spectroscopy.
