Superconductivity was observed for the first time for Ge.-.Au. films preparedby rf sputtering at room temperature. The films arc composed of the diamondstructure (Ge)-and hexagonal close packing (Ge-Au)-crystalline phases. Theorigin of superconductivity is discussed in the light of recent observations ofsuperconductivity for multi-layered films and very thin-Ag films on Ge cleansurfaces.
