Mossbauer Study of Fe_<0.5>Ni_<0.5>S_2 : Hyperfine Field at ^<57>Fe in Fe_<0.5>Ni_<0.5>S_2

The M6ssbauer effect of "Fe in Feg.5Nig.5Sz has been measured. The isomershift is (0.376 f0.005) mm/sec relative to metallic iron and the quadrupole split-ting is (0.50i0.01) mm/sec at 295 K. The internal parameter of crystal lattice hasa distribution in Feg.5Nig .5 S2 and most of the iron atoms are in the sites withsmaller internal parameter than that of CoS.. The iron atom in Fe ..5 Ni..,S. hasa low spin t9. configuration. The supertransferred hyperfine field has been ob-served at "Fe nucleus below about 100 K. The hyperfine field is (6 +2) k0e below10 K.
