Mossbauer and Magnetization Study of YBa_2(Cu_<1-x>Fe_x)_3O_<〜6.9>

M6ssbauer spectra of "Fe in YBaz(Cu. .Fe.)30, were studied for the samples keep-ing the oxygen concentration constant, ,v=6.87f0.05. Using the results of EXAFSmeasurement, we find that changes in the M6ssbauer pattern with iron concentrationcan be explained from changes in the oxygen coordination arc>und iron. The numberof iron atoms with an octahedral coordination increases rapidly with a change in thecrystal structure from orthorhombic to tetragonal. This increase has a close correla-tion with the decrease in a zero-field cooled magnetization in the superconductingstate. These results are consistent with that the tetragonal structure observed by X-raydiffraction is induced by the increase of the number of octahedrally coordinated ironand consists of microdomains with the orthorhontbic structure inside the domains.
