The capability of an energy dispersive X-ray absorption spectrometer for time-resolved experiment was demonstrated by measuring X-ray absorption spectra with a time-resolution of 25 ms from two reacting solutions (0.3 M ferric nitrate (Fe(NO_3)_3) and 0.3 M hydroquinone (C_6H_4(OH)_2)) mixed by the stopped-flow method. A real time observation of theenergy shift of the Fe K-absorption edge was successfully made after mixing the two solutions. The result suggests that the method is most suitable for the study of irreversible structural and chemical changes in various kinds of materials.
