Ordinary and Anomalous Magnetoresistances in β-(BEDT-TTF)_2X (X=IBr_2,I_2Br,I_3)

Resistance data of organic metals /7-(BEDT-TTF).X (X=IBr., I.Br, I.) measuredunder magnetic fields up to 50 kOe and temperature down to 0.5 K are presented. ForX=IBr, and I.Br the magnitude of the transverse magnetoresistance measured in thefield of 50 k0e applied along the c'-axis is 1-4% of the normal resistance, being con-sistent with the two-dimensional band structure. On the other hand, the resistance of/7-(BEDT-TTF).1. crystals exhibits a stepwise change when the field strength coincideswith the value H,... - (25 k0e) [1 - T / (7 K)]. This is ascribed to the recently found 8 K-superconducting phase under a soft pressure, which is partly contained in the crystalseven without pressure. The angular dependence of H..., is consistent with the criticalfield anisotropy of this superconducting phase.
