The Superstructure of the Organic Superconductor β-(BEDT-TTF)_2I_3 under Pressure

An X-ray diffraction study is made on the incommensurate superstructure in theorganic superconductor /7-(BEDT-TTF).1. under pressure. The onset temperature ofthe superstructure decreases from 175 Kto 150 K with increasing pressure from l barto about 400 bar, above which no superstructure is found. The wave vector specifyingthe superstructure is found to change in the range b<:tween 100 K and - 120 K. Thiswave-vector change slows down at low pressures. At ambient pressure it takes morethan 30 hr to complete the change. This wave-vector change is found to bring about anew "2 K superconducting state" in the title compound.[organic superconductor, BEDT-TTF, incon?mensurate superstructure, l] superstructure under pressurel
