(BEDT-TTF)3CuBrj is a two-dimensional organic conductor whose structure consists of al-ternate stacking of BEDT-TTF m conducting sheets and magnetic Cu" sheets. We investugatemagnetic susceptibility, magnetization and ESR in order to clarify the correlation between themagnetism and the electronic structure. Above a structural transition T. -::: 59 K, the rnag-netic susceptibility indicates the presence of strong antiferrornagnetic interaction between them-electrons on BEDT-TTF and the localized d-electrorus on Cu". The transition brings aboutthe disappearance of the magnetic moments of BEDT-TTF molecules below T., which indicatesthe change from a Mott insulator to a band insulator state. Below T., the susceptibility is gov-erned only by Cu" spins, and shows an antiferrornagnetic transition at Tg = 7.65 K, where them-electrons play an important role in the exchange interactions.
