Realization of Superconductivity at Ambient Pressure by Band-Filling Control in κ-(BEDT-TTF)_2Cu_2(CN)_3

The resistivity, therrnoelectric power (TEP), ESR and static susceptibility were rrueasured on /iand x'-(BEDT-TTF)rCur(CN)a; also, a band caJctrJation based on an extended Hiickel methodwas re-examined and the results were compared with those of related BEDT-TTF (ET) salts.Although the crystal- and calculated band structttres of these salts are identical within experimental error, the former is a semicondttctor; on the contrary, the latter is a uaaetal at arnbientpressure (AP). The band calculation and the spin susceptibility ()..,x..) rneastrrernent suggest thatthe former salt is a IVIott-insulator with an exactly half-filled band. A[thovrgh x-(ET)3Cu3(CN)3shows only the ESR signal of BT cation radicals, the x'-salt shows an additional ESII. signal ofCu" below about 20 K. The content of Cu" is 88 -1200 pprn of total copper atoms. It is foundthat the nuetallic state and the superconductixzity at AP of x'-(FIIT)3Cu.>(CN)3 is realized by aband-filling control by substituting Cu" with Ctr"
