Magnetoresistance in β-(BEDT-TTF)_2IBr_2:Shubnikov-de Haas Effect

Oscillations in the transverse magnetoresistance of /7-(BEDT-TTF).1. and p-(BEDT-TTF).IBr. were observed below 4.2 K in fields above 9 Tesla applied perpen-dicular to the a-b plane. The period of the resistance oscillation vs the inversemagnetic field proved that the cross-sectional area of the two-dimensional Fermi sur-face was nearly a quarter of the first Brillouin zone for both /7-(BEDT-TTF),I. and p-(BEDT-TTF).IBr.. Beat-like phenomenon in the magnetoresistance oscillation wasalso observed in both salts, and its origin is discussed. The fact that the two salts arequite similar in Shubnikov-de Haas effect suggests that the difference in the band struc-lure in the low- and high-7'. states of /7-(BEDT-TTF).1. is small.
