Study of Charge Density Waves in 4Hb–TaS2 by STM/STS

An investigation of charge-density waves in 4Hb–TaS2 was carried out by scanning tunneling microscopy and scanning tunneling spectroscopy. We succeeded in discriminating of the surface electronic structures of 4Hb–TaS2, octahedral structure and trigonal-prismatic structure in terms of the electronic properties. The measured energy gap of the charge-density waves of 4Hb–TaS2 at room temperature was about $9\pm 10$ meV.
