From the magnetization and M6ssbauer meastu'ement it was found that themagnetic state of intermetallic compound Hf..g'['a..zFez is ferromagnetic below150 K and antiferromagnetic between 150 and 338 K. Above 150 K a phasetransition from antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic state is induced by an externalmagnetic field and the magrtetization curve shows a hysteresis. The result isconsistent with that of the recent theoretical study by Moriya and Usami on thecoexistence of ferro- and antiferromagnetism in itinerant electron system.
