Reaction of three kinds of ketimine-type compounds, i.e. benzhydrilideneimine (Va), 1,2-diphenylethylideneimine (Vb), and 1-phenylpropylideneimine (Vc), with diketene was carried out and oxazine-type compounds were obtained in a good yield, respectively forming 3,4-dihydro-2,2-diphenyl-6-methyl-4-oxo-2H-1,3-oxazine (VIa), 3,4-dihydro-2-benzyl-6-methyl-4-oxo-2-phenyl-2H-1,3-oxazine (VIb), and 3,4-dihydro-2-ethyl-6-methyl-4-oxo-2-phenyl-2H-1,3-oxazine (VIc). Hydrolysis of these products with 10% hydrochloric acid resulted in the formation of benzophenone, acetone, carbon dioxide, and ammonium chloride from VIa. Reaction of with aniline gave N-benzhydrylideneaniline (VIIa) and acetacetanilide (VIII).
