Reaction between 11 kinds of Schiff base (Ib to Il) and diketene was carried out and six of these, i.e. N-benzylidenepropylamine (Ib), N-benzylidenecyclohexylamine (Ic), N-cinnamylidenecyclohexylamine (Id), N-ethylidene-tert-butylamine (Ie), N-ethylidenecyclohexylamine (If), and N-isobutylidenecyclohexylamine (Ig), afforded the corresponding 2-alkylideneacetoacetamide derivatives (IIb to IIg), whose catalytic reduction gave the 2-alkylacetoacetamide derivatives (IIIb to IIIg).
