The cells of a methanol-utilizing yeast, Candida boidinii (Kloeckera sp.) no. 2201 were treated to use for ATP production from AMP in a good yield by a newly developed method. The treatment could be simply carried out by the addition of sorbitol to a final concentration of 1.5 M to the cell suspension during incubation at 37℃. The sorbitol-treated cells produced ATP by a system involving the oxidation of methanol, oxidative phosphorylation, and adenylate kinase.
