Electric-Field Dependent Motion of Acoustic Domain in n-InSb

The period of acoustoelectric oscillation and the motion of acoustic domain in n-InSb are studied at a transverse magnetic field of 5.4kG with increasing the electric field. In a sample of 2 cm in length, the period of current oscillation is 9.0, 8.5 and 23 μsec when the applied electric field is 9, 22 and 110 V/cm, respectively. The phonon amplification factor is maximum at a field making the period minimum. The acoustic domain at the second period of current oscillation accumulates near the anode and fluctuates in time everywhere in the sample when the applied electric field is less than 15 V/cm. On the other hand, it travels with about the sound velocity for a field larger then 15 V/cm. The discussion is given experimentally and theoretically by considering the field dependence of the acoustic gain-factor.
