The production of cellulolytic enzymes by Pellicularia filamentosa FERM-P 1797 was studied in comparison with that by Trichoderma reesei strain QM 9414. Trichoderma mutant QM 9414 grown under the optimum conditions produced approximately twice as much cellulase as P. filamentosa in the basal medium with 0.05 (w/v)% of Triton X-100. On the other hand, the maximum β-glucosidase activity with P. filamentosa grown under the combined optimum conditions was four times as high as that with T. reesei QM 9414 grown under the optimum conditions.
