The content of total vitamin B_6 in the culture fluid containing added pyridoxal or pyridoxine remained constant during culture of Escherichia coli B, but increased during culture of Flavobacterium sp. 238-7. Pyridoxal and pyridoxal phosphate were accumulated in E. coli B, a bacterium of low vitamin B_6 production, whereas pyridoxamine phosphate was accumulated in Flavabacterium, a bacterium of high vitamin B_6 production.
