Animal test on the polysaccharides of different molecular sized were carried out with a view to medical use as clinica dextran. The results obtained are as follows : 1) Intravenous injection into mice showed that their toxicities are very low; L.D._<50>=975 mg per kg (intrinsic viscosity, [η], of sample RG-IV : 0.417) and 2215 mg per kg ([η]of sample Rg-iv' : 0.0237).2) Depolymerized polysaccharides ([η]<0.4) which may be used in clinic have shown no pyrogenity by the intravenous injection into rabbits.3) No anaphylactic symptom was observed in guinea pig repeated injection, or by the application of SCHULUTZ-DALE's method using the intestinal tissue.In another experiment, it was found that the polysaccharide inhibits the hemagglutination by influenza virus (PR8) owing to the formation of a complex, however, there was no evidence of inhibiting the multiplication of the virus in embryonated eggs.
