The predilection sites and incidence of hypertensive vascular changes in the adrenal of SHRSP were studied by using histological, microangiographical, scanning electron micrcscopical and tetralin clearing methods. The vascular changes in the adrenal developed at a high incidence (over 90%) in SHRSP of both sexes, and were found as early as 74 days of age in males and 91 days of age in females. There was a close correlation between the incidence of these vascular changes in the adrenal and the severity of blood pressure over 200-220 mmHg. Most of the vascular changes were localized in the recurrently or right-angular branching vessels in the capsule and the looped or sharply turned vessels in the zona glomerulosa. These vessels belonged to the medial and inferior suprarenal arteries, which showed the long and tortuous runways in comparison with the superior suprarenal artery.
