Cardiotonic Action of the Root of Citrus reticulata

A methanol extract of the root of Citrus reticulata (Rutaceae) (CM) (0.5 mg/ml) increased the developed tension of the isolated left atria of rats to 381±11 mg to show its cardiotonic effect. It also strongly inhibited the Na^+,K^+-ATPase. The activity of CM was found to be n-butanol soluble.
