A secondary and tertiary alkaloidal fraction from Monodora junodii was examined by the combination of preparative ion-pair HPLC and preparative TLC. A benzylisoquinoline alkaloid, (R)1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-8-hydroxy-7-methoxy-1-[(4-methoxyphenypmethyl] isoquinoline named norgorchacoine (1), was isolated for the first time from a plant, together with 17 known compounds. The structure of 1 was determined by instrumental analysis, mainly by the two-dimentional NMR techniques.
