The flavor components in dried rhizoma of Notopterygium sp. and in dried roots of Angelica pubescens and Aralia cordata were examined by the enfleurage method-capillary GC-MS. Thirty-three (N. sp.), twenty (A. pubescens) and seventeen (A. cordata) constituents were identified. Five of the constituents, i.e. n-hexanal, α-pinene, β-pinene, p-cymene and α-humulene were found in all the three crude drugs. In the dried roots of A. cordata, about 0.00025% by weight of paeonol was demonstrated.
