By using the isolated vas deferens from guinea pig, the effects of the local anesthetics on the responses to some contractile agents were investigated in relation to Ca mobilization, and the following results were obtained. 1. The tested local anesthetics, procaine, tetracaine and lidocaine, increased the phasic contraction and inhibited the tonic contraction in the low concentrations. But, the high concentrations inhibited the phasic contraction, as well. 2. The ACh- and the noradrenaline-contractions were inhibited by the low and the high concentration of the local anesthetics. 3. The effects of the local anesthetics were discussed in relation to Ca mobilization.
