Male ddY mice were orally infected once with eggs of Hymenolepis nana, and were also challenged orally with the eggs 4 weeks after primary infection. The mice were bled from the abdominal vein before infection and at various times after primary and challenge infections, and their sera were collected. Antibody activities of the serum samples were assayed by using an alkaline phosphatase micro-enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (micro-ELISA) method. Antibodies assayed by using the crude extract of mature eggs (CEA) as antigen were detectable by 1 week after primary infection and high antibody activity was prolonged up to 7 weeks after infection. Because of a persisting high antibody activity after primary infection, the anamnestic antibody response after challenge infection was not distinctly demonstrated. The interruption of infection at the beginning of lumen dwelling stage of the worm by an anticestode drug, praziquantel, did not affect the pattern of antibody response to CEA.
