<Short Report>Endothelin participates in a process of fibrinogen-involved platelet aggregation

There are conflicting views with regard to the action of endothelin on platelet function. In order to elucidate the implication of endothelin on the process of platelet aggregation, the relationship between endothelin and fibrinogen was examined by measuring changes in viscosity. Aggregatory activity measured with an aggregometer by Born's method was apparently observed at around 10^<-7> M of every endothelin (ET-1,-2 and -3) in the presence of fibrinogen without change of [Ca^<2+>]i and ATP release. At the same concentration of endothelin, the viscosily of fibrinogen solution declined dramatically. These data suggest that endothelin and fibrinogen molecules combined with each hydrophobic amino acid, and produced platelet aggregation at the first phase.
